Postdoctoral Positions in the Information Theory, Probability and Statistics Unit
We seek two strong candidates with a PhD in IT or Mathematics to work at the intersection of Information Theory and Probability Theory at OIST, in the beautiful Okinawa, Japan. A two-year contract and various allowances are included.

We are seeking two highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researchers to join our unit.Ìý

The successful candidates will work closely with the head of the unit and team to conduct research, publish findings, and contribute to the advancement of our research agenda.

The work is at the intersection of Information Theory and Probability Theory.Ìý

The main areas of interest include (but are not restricted to) the following:Ìý

- information measures;Ìý

- concentration of measure;Ìý

- concentration of measure in non-classical settings (non iid, heavy tails, ...);Ìý

- hypothesis testing in non-classical settings (non iid, heavy tails, ...);Ìý

- properties (contraction) of Markovian and non-Markovian operators on probability measures;Ìý

- variational characterisations of information measures;Ìý

  1. Conduct original research in the areas described above
  2. Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferencesÌý
  3. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and lead project initiativesÌý

ÌýQualifications (Required)Ìý

  1. ÌýPhD in Information Theory, Mathematics or related fields
  2. ÌýStrong research skills and a solid track record of publicationsÌý
  3. ÌýExcellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  4. ÌýKnowledge of Measure Theory and Functional Analysis is appreciated.Ìý
