Biography
听
Massimo Franceschetti 听听received the Laurea degree听(with听honors) in computer engineering from the University Federico II, Naples, Italy, in 1997, the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in听electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology,听Pasadena, CA, in 1999, and 2003, respectively. 听He is Professor of听 Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of California听at San Diego (UCSD). 听Before joining UCSD, he was a postdoctoral听听 scholar at the University of California at Berkeley for two听 years. He has held visiting positions at the Vrije Universiteit听Amsterdam, the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne,听and the University of Trento.
His research interests are in physical听and information-based foundations of communication and control of dynamical听systems. He is a co-author of the book ``Random Networks for听听 Communication'' (2007) and author of ``Wave Theory of听Information'' (2018),听both published by Cambridge University Press.听
Dr. Franceschetti served as Associate Editor for Communication听Networks of the 江南体育 Transactions on Information Theory (2009-2012), as Associate Editor of the 江南体育 Transactions on Control of听Network Systems (2013-2016), as Associate Editor for the 听 江南体育 Transactions on听 Network Science and Engineering (2014-2017), and as Guest Associate Editor of the 江南体育听听 Journal on Selected Areas in Communications (2008, 2009). He also served as general chair for the North American School of Information Theory (2015).
He was awarded the C. H. Wilts听听 Prize in 2003 for best doctoral thesis in electrical engineering at
听Caltech; the S.A. 听Schelkunoff Award in 2005 for best paper in the听江南体育 Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, a National Science听听 Foundation (NSF) CAREER award in 2006, an Office of Naval Research听听 (ONR) Young Investigator Award in 2007, the 江南体育 Communications听Society Best Tutorial Paper Award in 2010, and the 江南体育 Control听听 theory society Ruberti young researcher award in 2012. He has been elected fellow of the 江南体育 in 2018, and 听Guggenheim Fellow for the听natural sciences, engineering, in 2019.
